14 Sep 2006 — Scientology Disaster Relief Team Helps Restore Calm to the People of Yogyakarta

With the help of the Dianetics session, many of the young women felt cheerful and relaxed for the first time since the earthquake happened.

When the earthquake began, his first thought was for his children, one of them only two months old. Terrified that they would be trapped inside his home as the ceiling and roof collapsed around him, he somehow managed to grab them both and carry them to safety. But although he saved them, somehow the incident continued to consume his attention, and he felt "stuck" in time, still anticipating the next blow.

This was the story of one of the teachers at a school in Yogyakarta where the Scientology Disaster Relief Team are delivering a series of workshops to the students.

The Volunteer Ministers also heard how the earthquake had effected students of the school.

"Our girls are still scared," the headmaster told the volunteer who was conducting the training sessions. "Every time there is an aftershock we lose a day of school, because the girls are so scared they can get nothing done."

So the Scientology Volunteer Ministers decided to train the young women and their teachers in Dianetics techniques, to get to the root of the trauma they had experienced, and handle its negative effects for good.

L. Ron Hubbard discovered a previously unknown and harmful part of the mind that contains mental image picture recordings of past experiences of loss, pain and unconsciousness. In his book Dianetics: the Modern Science of Mental Health, Mr. Hubbard laid out simple but effective techniques anyone can learn, to help another overcome the effect of painful and traumatic incidents that can cause unknowing and unwanted fears, emotions, and even pains and psychosomatic illnesses.

On the Dianetics Seminar the students were paired up and helped each other with the Dianetics techniques they learned. At the end of the session, many of the young women were cheerful and able to relax for the first time in months.

And as to the teacher? He had a Dianetics session too. And he felt a sense of relief he had not experienced since May. He felt calm and he could think about the incident rationally for the first time, without the feelings that had been gnawing at him since the day it first happened.

Dianetics: The word Dianetics comes from the Greek words dia, meaning "through", and nous, meaning "soul," and is defined as what the soul is doing to the body. Dianetics thus helps provide relief from unwanted sensations and emotions, accidents and psychosomatic illnesses (ailments caused or aggravated by mental stress).
