The reason Scientologists are so passionate about helping children steer clear of drug abuse is that they know the long-term effects these substances have on the body, mind and spirit.

Scientologists work with children, such as these in from the San Tien elementary school in Taichung, giving them the information they need to make sane choices about their future.

In the late 1960’s Scientology founder, L. Ron Hubbard, discovered drugs to be a major impediment to spiritual progress and enlightenment.  He also found that long after an individual has stopped taking drugs, he may continue to be affected by them.

Last year alone, over 500 Taiwanese students were arrested for narcotics abuse, with amphetamines and ecstasy being the most commonly used drugs.  And all youth who experiment with drugs put their lives and future at risk.

The Scientologists of Taiwan are fighting the “drug war” with information.

Every week they deliver drug education lectures to thousands of students in all levels of the Taiwan education system, to make sure they have the information they need to make their own decisions, based on facts.

Working in partnership with the schools, they provide lectures and written material, presented in a way that youth will understand it.

L. Ron Hubbard once said, “Save the child, and you save the nation,” and Scientologists of Taiwan take this seriously.  They know that through their actions they are saving children and teenagers whose lives would be ruined without the vital information they are providing them.

This commendation was presented to the Church of Scientology of Taiwan by the Her-Ping elementary school, in appreciation for the work the Church is doing to help their children live drug-free lives.
