Determined to help the youngsters of their country live decent lives, free from the debilitating effects of narcotics and other harmful drugs, every week Scientologists volunteer their time to give drug education lectures in schools throughout Taiwan.
 | At a recent drug education lecture at the Chung-Lin Primary School the children listen attentively to information on the effects of drugs. |
They use drug education materials as part of the "Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life" program. The Taiwanese Ministry of Education has helped to finance the reprint of more than 100,000 copies of an educational booklet on ecstasy and children in hundreds of schools in the country have participated in drug education lectures with the result that ecstasy use has dropped by 65 percent across all targeted age groups.
The success of the volunteers who present these lectures in Taiwan has strengthened their commitment to get this information into the hands of every child in their country.
 | After learning about the effects of drugs, the children all pledge to live drug-free lives. |
There is one year remaining to meet the goals set in 1998 by the UN General Assembly special session on the world drug problem of significantly reducing both the supply of and demand for drugs by 2008. The message of the Taiwan volunteers is that it's easy to help kids make the right decision about drugs if you talk to them in terms they understand and present them with factual information about drugs. They urge concerned parents, teachers and other volunteers to take the truth about drugs to children all over the world.
