Over the past two years, the Mobile Volunteer Ministers Center in the Tamil Nadu province of India, under the leadership of Marc and Prisca Arrighi, has helped more than 1500 children with seminars that will enable them to make the most of their future education.

Tamil Nadu is a former French colony on the southeastern coast of India. The entire region was decimated by the 2004 tsunami. And Marc and Prisca, who arrived from France with their entire family to work with the relief effort at that time, have stayed on to help improve the lives of the people in the villages of the region.
The study technology seminar they provide is one of their most popular services. The seminar uses a chapter from the Scientology Handbook, a compilation of the research on the subject of study and education, by L. Ron Hubbard, founder of the Scientology religion.
On their blog, the Arrighis explain why they offer this training:
"Past ineffective attempts at improving the quality of education over the last few decades raise an important question: why has there been so little improvement despite so much attention being given to the situation—with millions spent each year, why has it not improved?
"The answer is quite simple. All these recent efforts have been trying to solve the wrong problem.
"The bottom line on all scholastic failures can be found in one fundamental factor: no one has ever taught children how to study.
"For years, children are immersed in the world of school and studies without anyone teaching them how to learn all this information. As they get older, the subjects they are trying to master become more and more complex, but they still don't know how to learn.
"Knowing how to learn is the element that was always missing, and that is what cuts across anyone trying to learn anything. It not only handicaps them in school but throughout their lives.
"Not knowing how to learn, most students find their schooling arduous and difficult. They never gain the ability to learn things rapidly and with certainty. And even those who have less trouble in school commonly find themselves unable to apply what they've learned.
"And one of the facts of life in the modern world is that everyone who works, whether as a laborer an artisan or in business, government, finance or management, has to be able to assimilate the important information that relates to their job, retain it and use it. That, whether in a formal school setting or the 'school of life,' is what studying is really all about."
Prisca Arrighi describes what she and the Volunteer Ministers team have been doing over the past few weeks, as follows:
"Schools here have been closed for vacation. But we continued our work, delivering our seminars in orphanages and villages.
"We have between 40 and 60 children in each seminar, and for three days we teach them basic information on study. What is incredible is that these village children, who are not required by school authorities to attend, have been returning after each meal, throughout the day, come back the next day, and are still here two days later, just because they enjoy the seminar and want to be here!"

Here is what one of the students had to say about this seminar:
"For the past three days I've been taking a seminar organized by the Scientology Volunteer Ministers on study technology. I have in fact learned a new way to learn. I studied different barriers to study and what the solutions are to each of them. It has been so useful! And I really enjoyed myself throughout the entire three days. Everything was taught step by step, so you could understand it all fully. I will absolutely be able to use this in the future! And I can use what I learned to help my friends and family who have study problems. Thank you Mr. L. Ron Hubbard for this technology."
