ST. LOUIS, Saturday, September 27, 2008— Under a bright yellow tent in Lafayette Square, the Church of Scientology's new Volunteer Ministers' Tent was erected for the first time in the city of St. Louis, to demonstrate real solutions to problems facing local communities such as, illiteracy, family upset, crime, drug use and even business difficulties.
The program started over 25 years ago with the publication of The Scientology Handbook. The book is a comprehensive work providing solutions that were developed by L. Ron Hubbard — author, humanitarian and Founder of the Scientology religion — to a wide range of human problems.
Mr. Hubbard stated, "A Volunteer Minister is...a person who, on a strictly volunteer basis, helps out his fellow man by providing simple, basic counseling to people he meets to assist them in overcoming difficulties they may have in life."
For more than a quarter century, Volunteer Ministers have crossed national, racial, political and religious boundaries in more than 150 countries to help people deal successfully with the upheavals of life.
Volunteer Ministers have provided rescue relief to those devastated by earthquakes, tornadoes, floods, bombings and war-related disasters. In 1993, Volunteer Ministers assisted in the disaster relief following the Missouri floods. They have provided relief at Ground Zero at the World Trade Center, the Oklahoma City Bombing, the California wildfires, the Moscow hostage crisis, earthquakes all over the world, Hurricane Katrina, the 2004 Southeast Asia tsunami - in short wherever the need arises.
No matter what the difficulty, Volunteer Ministers have given people the real hope that SOMETHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT!
